Usne's behavior is confusing because it's so contradictory. One moment he wants to fight and kill, and the next, for no discernible reason, he wants to back away and wait. Very strange…

It's one thing to get lost in the deepest part of his own lair like a complete idiot. It's another thing to shoot at near point-blank and miss, and it's yet another thing to even try shooting when bullets don't do anything as it turns out. Usne's a most dangerous kind of sociopath: psychotic, semi-paranoid, and unpredictable… Oh yeah, and he's also practically unkillable.
Given what's happened in terms of idiot moves on Jakob's part, Usne's paranoia would show.

In other words, Usne's giving Jakob too much credit.
