THE PLAN!

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Update on the planning of the DEAD comic: Plz read “plzkthnx”.

Due to a growing fear of things turning into a disorganized mess, and the fact that I was bored out of my mind to begin with… and the fact that I am not one to enjoy following schedules, let alone try to follow them, period…

Anyway, the point I was trying to get to was the fact that the DEAD comic is now going to just update one page per day. The main reason: my fear of horribly disorganized messes.

The advantages of it: Not only will it allow you to read one page per day and not have to read through entire chapters every day, but it will allow me to plan my next comics. Once I actually get a plot synopsis down, I’ll drop a hint or two about my future comics.

I’ll probably drop a reminder on tomorrow’s comic in case you’re too busy to look at your computer on Saturday.

All in all, one comic per day. Last day is expected to be April 11th.

… I don’t even have a title for my next comic… Heh… All in good time. I have four months, easily.

Bonus Comics

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

I made yet another page at the header bar thingy. This time, for bonus comics. They could be for just about anything, and it all started with this one comic I made starring Jakob and Usne introducing Cold Storage. I made it all within last Bungie Day, which [when you ever see the comic] would give you an idea as to how fast I can work on comics.

I at first tried to upload the Christmas Special by regular upload, but they all transformed into DEAD Page 13… which sort of sucked in a sense.

So I made a gallery with the whats-it-calleds. and I plan to make more and throw them into the Bonus Comics page. Check there every so often for updates. They could be about some holiday, or something Halo-related, or a comic-based review of something, or it could parody another webcomic… just for kicks, you know? [The last one is not so likely...]

… No, I’m too lazy to make prints. Sorry.

:D ?

Panoramas

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

In celebratio of obtaining Photoshop CS4, I’m addicted to making panoramas. See the page on the header called “PANORAMAS” (doi!) for more details.

Also, Chapter 1 is done. Chapter 2 starts with DEAD 16

Revamped the “Bonus Comics” page.

Friday, January 16th, 2009

It houses not only bonus comics, but also whatever stuff I have that I don’t feel like putting in the main stream of stuff.

Instead of “Bonus Comics”, it’s now called “Bonus Stuff”. I usually make stuff for that collection out of sheer boredum, or by request. However, everything there was done out of the former reason, and I’ve yet to get any requests… at all.

No, this does NOT mean you should be sending me requests. Although it would be pretty cool, I just have multiple commitments, so asking me would result in quite a long wait before I get to it… unless it’s something that compells me.

So yeah, check it out when you can.

Dirt on Drawl Origins… and something else.

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

April 11th marks the final page of DEAD. That’s Eight chapters and one epilogue at a total of 121 pages and around 640 screenshots used.

I expected Drawl Origins to be shorter by a long shot, but I’m not quite done gathering screenshots and I currently have about 238. I still have the finale to finish on this.

But anyway, here’s the dirt on Drawl Origins.

Cast includes four characters and a small number of secondaries. Two of whom have no names, while another one is the most extreme tomboy one could ever meet. Her name remains unrevealed.

Every one of the characters, except one, do not relate with me whatsoever. I made it that way on purpose to experiment just how well I can write characters that have literally nothing in common with me.

If I’m successful in that, then either I’m schizophrenic or I’m talented in character development. Please let it be the first, because I don’t want to end up sounding like an egotistical douche.

Also, it features cool filters and hand-drawn beings, which includes one of the main characters.

It’s a seriously screwed-up story. If recent history has taught me anything, it’s that screwed-up stories make the most stupidest religions out there. If mine were to ever achieve some cult, I would never… EVER… make it a WBC or Scientology sort of thing.

It’s just not a cool thing to do, and horribly unoriginal.

I would appreciate a cult following, but so long as it doesn’t involve stupid things. plzkthnx.

… I just sounded like an egotistical douche. Crap!

But anyway, I also forgot to add another story to that list in my Header. It’s called “Arctic Base”, and I’m going to need some serious help if I ever get around to it.

Unlike the other stories, I’m going to put out information about the comic.

It’s based in that Covenant Base the Crete Survivors find in DEAD, so it’s based in the same “alternate Alternate Universe”. It’s about a bunch of Elites who were forgotten about when their communications array hits the “bogus” level. Their turrets also all malfunction and end up targeting anything that gets in their sights.

That means anything that tries to leave gets toasted.

One Turret gets beoken though. Exploration reveals that the way the turret was guarding leads to a blocked-off canyon. So they’re blocked by rampant turrets and huge canyon walls. Sucks to be them, eh?

Anyway, before Usne comes along, a ship of Covenant attempts to establish contact with them. They lack working tech and their turrets ar haywire. The Covenant Leader of the group, a complete idiot, declares the whole lot Heretics and attempts to attack the base. Only to have the squad sent down get obliterated by the turrets.

That’s about all I have so far. I’ll need to come up with some additional plot points before Usne comes along to kill them all.

Apart from The Jakobdians, Arctic Base is really the only comic idea I have where I actually, 100% really need help in acting and the like.

I’m not asking for help now. Let me get Drawl Origins made and set in its schedule first. I’ll make a post on the Forum when I need help. I’ll also make a post about that on my Blog. For some reason, it won’t let me hyperlink the second thing. But it’s on my “Links”, called “Jakya Studios”

Wootness!

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Drawl Origins is c0mplete, and I’m getting it into the schedule.

DEAD finishes on April 11th, a Saturday. April 13, a Monday, will be the release of the first page of Drawl Origins. It will continue on a Mon-Wed-Fri basis.

For those too lazy to do the math, that means the last page will be out on the 7th of September, which is still a bit away from what I assume to be the Halo 3: Recon (I still call it “Recon”, fewer syllables to say, and saying ODST as a word just sounds weird)

That means I’m going to work on one more comic before I start on the Big Project. By that, I mean the “Real JKBverse story”

From what I have seen and heard about the mythic maps, I will need practically all of them for what I plan. That’s just awesome.

Oh yeah, I’m also thinking of making some comic in Halo 3: Recon, campaign. If I had a second Xbox, two copies of the game, and four controllers… Or, you know, a friend with an xbox, I’d probably make a Halo 3: Recon comic for the lulz.

… I don’t quite get what’s going to be happening with the game though, so I can only keep my fingers crossed.

Also, Sandbox rules. ‘Nuff said.

Jakya Studios… in detail.

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Sure, the link may be there on the sidebar, but I don’t think many get what it’s supposed to be, and therefore not really care after one view.

It’s a blog I got from Wordpress.com, one of those free ones that allow you to put up one of limited themes, and you’re generally not allowed to change the design, but it’s free, and it gets Wordpress traffic that it so well deserves.

It’s basically Wordpress’ answer to things like Blogspot or Xanga. My blog is basically a journal, except instead of some random “My dog’s blog. Woof woof, I just chewed on a bone and it was yummy,” like most blogs and their… dog… Jakya Studios is more of a Day journal about my boring and ultimately very sad life. Think Kevin Smith with his “My Boring-Ass Life”, which is basically a compilation of his personal blog entries made into a book. I made the Day Journal sort of inspired by Kevin Smith. For those of you who don’t know who Kevin Smith is, just look him up. I’m too lazy to dig up links.

I run this blog alongside some dude who lives in my basement, who’s known as “Jakob”. I realise I sort of stole his name for the character in DEAD, but who’s going to care? Jakob certainly doesn’t mind. A name’s a name, after all.

Jakya Studios is the combined efforts of Jakob and myself. I’m the artistic douchebag who’s more out-going and social, while Jakob is the very talented writer who despises humanity and almost never socialises, despite the fact that he sometimes ends up at different parts of the world a good number of times. Every weekend, he simply disappears to reappear on Monday morning.

Anyway, Jakob’s a writer, and he’s teaching me how to not suck so much. He also makes his odd post on the blog, but otherwise, it’s run by myself.

To those who don’t like swearing, I’d recommend avoiding the blog. Jakob is a candid swear-box and I tend to get rough around the edges when it’s a subject of something I find stupid or annoying. Otherwise, I’m usually mild.

I started the thing in the first place as a form of stress relief, and it actually works. It’s like taking what’s on your mind and throwing it on a text document of some kind, except instead of letting it clutter your hard drive, you put it up for the world to check out if they give a darn.

There are some things in some posts that may not make sense in others. I don’t really notice or care.

So yeah, if you’re honestly so bored, check it if you want. Shameless plugs for the fail.

Something wicked on Bonus Stuff appears.

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Yes, a lame Scottish Play reference.

Anyway, if you haven’t checked out Bonus Stuff recently, you’ll see a title page you’ll find pretty interesting.

I still have the wallpaper, and I don’t think I should reveal it just yet. It shows too much, considering the first page isn’t even out yet.

So here’s a little taste: The Title Page. Comments about it go here or something like that.

Stupidest, yet probably one of the best ideas ever.

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I’ll assume it’ll be the former until proven otherwise.

The idea: Usne as a hero unit in Halo Wars.

Okay, I’ll wait until your laughter stops…

Main Attack: Hammer > Sword > Dual swords

Passive Abilities:

The Aura (constant effect) : Boosts performance of units. Can be upgraded all the way up to the size of a standard base.

Rush (Y-activated) : Temporarily boosts Usne’s speed to allow him to outrun most units. At first, he can outrun marines. Next upgrade, he can outrun tanks. After the last one, he can outrun Warthogs. Full upgrade will basically make him the fastest unit in the game, even faster than a boosting Banshee, probably.

Super Unit: … Uh… Hijacked Sentinels?

Now then, the problem is that he sides with no one… Bummer. Yep, definitely a stupid idea.

Wait! I know! Jakob!

Main Attack: SMG (short range, low power) > Battle Rifle (med range, med power) > Sniper Rifle (long range, high power)

Passive Abilities:

Time-Slow (Y-activated) : Slows down time to a near-stop, allowing him to take more shots at units, with more damage and more accuracy. After all, they’re not moving targets and they’re not shooting back. Unfortunately, it slows down every unit except Jakob. That includes Jakob’s user’s units. It also depletes Jakob’s health. Double-edged sword, eh?

Blood Regeneration (constant effect) : Usage of his ability has allowed him to become tolerant of blood loss, and even developed a quickened blood recovery rate. Leave him out of battle and he will heal by himself. There’s no need for the UNSC’s heal ability.

Super Unit: … Actually, I can’t really reveal the characters I planned to use here…

… Okay, are you guys still laughing?

It actually would be wicked if modders actually made custom heroes in Halo Wars, eh?

Actually, what if people started making… nevermind, actually.

Halo 3 Webcomics1

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Note the “1″ there. I’m trying to imply that this certainly won’t be the last time I do something like this.

What is “this”? you may ask, What “this” is is… Screw it, I’m not going to waste words like a Shakespearean. Check it through the link:

Halo 3 Webcomics Logo

Of course, this isn’t the REAL design, it’s just part of what we cartoonists are doing for this small group in the sea that is the Halo community. We’re pitching our ideas at each other like baseball fans of rival teams in the same neighborhood.

… I don’t watch baseball, so I should probably come up with a simile that I can actually relate to…
