SETTING + CHARACTERS

THE UNIVERSE:

I call it the “JKBverse”, after Jakob, who’s one of the main characters throughout the stories of the JKBverse.

The difference between the JKBverse and the original Haloverse is not in the Human-Covenant War, but what happens before and after it. Compared to the events before and after, the Human-Covenant War more served as a sort of “peace buffer”, ironically enough.

DEAD

(DEAD is basically an alternate story. The “real” story that takes place between Jakob and Usne in the JKBverse is far different compared to this one.)

It started off as some machinima idea about an epic duel between two dudes who have unnatural means of killing things. Then it turned into a comic when it turned out I was too lazy to do video and sound editing rather than fool around with Photoshop.

The things we do to get a story out, eh?

Anyway, DEAD is about an Elite called “Usne” and the fighting that happens between him and the survivors when an “unnatural” human arrives. I would say more, but that would be spoiling now, would it? ;)

This whole thing was inspired out of one screenshot, which I managed to snag after using two filters in Ghost Town (Gloomy and Colorblind) and glitching a teleporter into the center building “outside” of the map. There’s a room that’s dark like you wouldn’t believe. I’m just saying, but seeing is believing. The screenshot is still in my gallery HERE.

CHARACTERS

(This will update as more characters are revealed. Any minor characters will be revealed when more of their group are revealed as well.)

jakob-pictureJAKOB MEREDITH – Main Character. A Schizophrenic with a seriously screwed-up past. Well, screwed up compared to other humans.

He single-handedly pilots a ship called the “Anthroforge”, which contains a “dumb” AI, whom Jakob has never named yet. Due to his lack of a complex vocabulary, he unofficially renamed the ship “Forge”

As a result of many key events in his life, he ended up becoming a space explorer, using said ship. He’s warranted for arrest on many accounts, but none of which are really official. Just grudges against him due to his dislike for humans.

He was never part of the human race in the time of the Human-Covenant War, but he was never part of the Covenant. A very isolated chap. He’s one of the main dudes of the JKBverse as well, but not quite as important.

Fitting with his dislike of humans, he has an odd affinity with Covenant weaponry. The sword, above all.

Just like every recent video game and their dog, Jakob has an implant that allows him to go into a deep concentration that time around him practically stops. In other words, an “implant that stops time”. However, it runs off his own blood, and he cannot use it if wounded. As a result, he has gotten used to blood loss and has even managed to quicken his blood recovery rate.

He is also not a fan of stupidity, and not really that caring for the fact that people can take offense to swearing.

Actually, he did have inspirations in his character design. (I am an idiot for not remembering, news-flash!) His mental instability was inspired by the character John Nash from the movie “A Beautiful Mind”.

He is also based on my ideas of mental instability. The way it’s planned will take that in consideration…

usne-pictureUSNE RACOT – A sociopathic Elite with a fractured mind. It’s so messed up that he’s lost his ability to change emotion apart from a disturbing calm to a slight joking manner.

He’s an extremely deadly fighter. Able to rip a SPARTAN to shreds with his bare hands, and seemingly immortal. An unquenchable thirst for slaughter fuels this monster throughout the story.

His biggest downfall, according to Jakob and other survivors, is the fact that Usne treats it all as a game, giving second chances. It’s actually understandable, considering no one has officially discovered it and cataloged it into some encyclopedia. Anyone unfortunate enough to get close to this planet becomes Usne’s many victims. As of yet, no one has ever escaped his planet.

Usne also has a dark aura to him, which somehow drains the color of anything around him. It all returns to normal when he leaves said area, though.

His main inspiration is Zaroff from the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”… Look it up, and you’ll get it.

CRETE SURVIVORS

Altogether contain five soldiers. All survivors from the disappeared research frigate “Artistry”.

[FORCE] COLONEL BILL HARRISON – A generally selfless soldier who’s not a fan of the command chain, but still proud to be leading the survivors living in “Crete”. He’s not that good of a diplomat, but he does have common sense. Said common sense being higher than average.

He was inspired by Hood… as in the Halo 2 and 3 Hood. As in Baldo voiced by HellBoy. Actually, I don’t know. Wait! I got it. Inspired from Bill from Left 4 Dead. The first name should have clue’d me in.

FIRST LIEUTENANT FRANK FISHER – Harrison’s right-hand man and “housekeeper” whenever Harrison goes out (and vice-versa). Part of the second scouting party. Yes, Fisher as in Sam Fisher.

GUNNERY SGT. LARS JOHANNSON – Frank’s partner. Part of the second scouting party. Also the best pilot of the group.

SGT. JON GRAHAM – (Yes, reference to DigitalPh33r.) Father of Cprl. Helen Graham. Part of the main scouting party.

CPRL. HELEN GRAHAM – Daughter of Sgt. Jon Graham. Part of the main scouting party. (this is not to say that Digitalph33r will have a daughter named Helen. If he actually does have a daughter and names it Helen, then do not hesitate to burn me at a stake.)

—OTHER

RLED KAJALEE – A survivor found in the underground Forerunner “Maze” below the abandoned Covenant Base. A stormtrooper inspired by… well, no one.

JAMES KORDAK – Leader of the survivor colony “Crowbar”. Needless to say, he’s a bit of an egotistical moron who’s very hard to drill things into. Do not ask how he got in office, because I don’t even know.

His main inspiration is every non-sensical idiot I’ve ever had to listen to in real life. He’s not as freakishly stupid as Digitalph33r’s Master Chief, but he’s still an idiot.

MSGT. PHILIP MASON – Originally a psychiatrist, he was drafted into the army when the H-C war broke out. The joke of “Doctor Philip” is pretty obvious, but of all characters in existence, Philip Mason most resembles Dr. Schreber from Dark City. He doesn’t have the speech impediment, however. But that’s his main inspiration.

CROWBAR CITIZENS – Civilians, Ex-UNSC marines, and Ex-Insurrectionists who evacuated a planet back is 2549. After assorted randomized travel, they ended up crashing on the planet in 2554. They built a well-hidden base called “Crowbar”, claiming to be well-hidden from Usne. Inspired by… citizens of a survival effort… or something?

—THE AI CHARACTERS

NURSE – The AI based in the medical wing of the Artistry. Evidence reveals that she went through Rampancy throughout the six years of isolation, but let go of all negative thoughts when the threat of Usne became apparent. Her main inspiration is just about any calm female doctor with the soothing voice that injured male patients tend to call “So wonderfull! he he he he he!” … or something like that… She was made with the mind of a doctor who was also a part-time writer.

ADVENT – Mentioned as the first AI to notice Usne’s presence on the Artistry. Those who played Marathon will find Advent to resemble Durandel, as he does the menial tasks, such as opening doors. He disappeared during the first encounter. In fact, he’s mainly inspired by Durandel. It’s unknown what happened to him. (a story for another time.)

SATE – Mentioned as the third of the three AI. Developed to be a weapons specialist. Has a relatively violent nature and can be easily annoyed. He was created through the flash-cloned brain of an intelligent weapons specialist with an unfortunately itchy trigger finger.

YORAL – Mentioned as an AI that was stationed at what was officially named “Crete” since before the Artistry crew even arrived on the planet. The humans don’t yet know about the Forerunners (seeing as the discovery of Halo was 2552, a year after the disappearance of the Artistry) and so don’t know what Yoral really is. However, the threat of Usne occupied the survivor’s minds from curiosity.

He’s said to be weirdly calm, and candid about his statements. He also tries not to say something exactly, but rather hint at it incredibly well. Origin: Forerunner.

[Will add more when they are introduced.]

DRAWL ORIGINS

SETTING:

The Torquial Sector is somewhere across the Outer Colony borders from the Eradinus Sector. There are habitable planets here, but what habitability there is is not as good as one might think. Most planets are either entirely desert and mountains, others have high-risen bedrock, rendering farming not so keen.

The only areas where farming turns out good results are the volcanos on the desert planets Tor-IV and Tor-III. The planet where The Protagonist’s flashback takes place is called Tor-V. On that planet, artificial greenhouses have been developed throughout the Equator. Everywhere else had been excavated for mining, or to build tunnels to reach under mountains that have been deemed “impassable.” Said mining bases and greenhouses have also been built on other planets like Tor-V.

Military bunkers have also been built, but only as a way for people to dig themselves away from Insurrectionists. However, the native creatures of Tor-IV have had a tendancy of tearing through their defenses, and said bunkers were not built with nuclear devices in mind.

CHARACTERS:

THE PROTAGONIST- With no name, is highly trained in advanced tactical movement. He was a scout in the UNSC. Due to events, he simply “vanished from existence.”

It is currently unknown as to who he is. Curiously, he doesn’t even remember his own name. No one else knows either.

(I never gave him a name, apart from “The Protagonist”. I have called him “The Scout” as well. Take your pick. I prefer the former. Do not try to suggest names to me.)

DRAWL – If there was ever a top dog of enigmas, this son-of-a-bitch would take the cake. His ghostly white outline of an image combined with his “schizophrenic”, random nature, playful attitude, and aptitude for grinning huge, disturbing smiles, all the while with the windows to his soul entirely hidden. Meeting him in person is a disturbing experience for even the strong-of-heart.

His attire consists of a worn war vet’s coat, complete with neatly clean khakis and dress shoes. His hair is combed-back, complemented with his more “unique” beard. His eyes are hidden behind huge, circular-lens goggles. They seem to amplify his almost-never-ending grinning. His inspiration is the way I view God. On another note, he was named by a really good friend of mind.

He is basically how I envision “God,” and how I see what everyone else calls “God.” Logically, I know that God can never be an “all-knowing, all-loving” kind of guy. I see him as a selfish asshole who’s in it for his own entertainment.

And why? All because he wants to see how it all turns out at the end of existence itself.

In Drawl We Trust, and Despise.

EVALYN JACOBSON – A hardcore son-of-a-bitch… or rather, daughter-of-a-bitch. She’s a tomboy of the most extreme sense. No feminine qualities whatsoever, save for her female voice and the fact that her reproductive organs are different to that of the male side of the species. She’s sent onto the planet by the UNSC to rescue survivors from the outbreak of “the things”, and also to escape the sudden Insurrectionist threat.

She commits suicide out of confusion of orders, which amplify her extreme hardcore-ness. She was named by a good friend of mine, but the inspiration was basically “the most hardcore female you could ever cross BRs with.”

THE UNKNOWN – Exactly what the name implies. No one knows about him, no exceptions. His motives are unknown, his reasons for trusting The Protagonist are unknown. And since he’s dead, we will never know.

THE OTHERS – A council of AI that aid The Unknown in whatever the heck the Unknown does… which is also unknown. Inspired by Jim’s own Cavalcade… and also because I was too lazy to build a new set.

Drawl abducts them after killing the Unknown and integrates them into human society seamlessly… Because he can do that… and he ponders just how the “advanced AI” can function throughout the timeline, and how much can be done with them in society.

THE MUSICIAN – A machine and a servant of Drawl, programmed with every piece of recorded music that was made since before 2475. Its favorite artist is actually Deadmau5, but Pink Floyd makes a close second.

He meets the Protagonist due to a random consciousness interference that was inadvertently caused by some of Drawl’s actions elsewhere. The Musician threw the Protagonist out by utilizing disturbing images to weaken his spirit, allowing swift, efficient movement through space-time.

What did I just say? Some random jargon. It’s a creation of Drawl in Drawl’s own pocket of existence. It’s not exactly going to be able to make sense.

If Drawl has something in storage, The Musician looks after it, using good music to allow the captives to not go insane.

Of course, Drawl is not exactly affected by music, to those who ask “Why doesn’t Drawl have music playing for him to prevent his insanity?”

His inspiration is only as much as the fact that he has billions, even trillions of songs.
